I have finished the novel - the Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks. It was a real love story. And that was precisely the point. Mutual love between her and her husband enabled the woman to recover her memory once in a while. When the doctors diagnosed the illness, she decided to write her life story before she would loose her memory. This was a test to see if she could recover her memory when the illness would be advanced. The idea was that her husband would read her chapters from it every night. And in the novel it did make a difference, the miracle happened. She did have moments when she would recognize her beloved husband (although they had reached 80 years, and were in a nursing home, the same although separate rooms). Although this is a novel, the story is based on real events. It keeps coming up again, the importance of working with the life story of the patients, which brings back the belief in working with culture when shaping AlzheimUr. That is a very clear point, which means that now I must search for additional elements...
